Pipeline and Valves

Pressure Testing of Pipeline

Pipelines should be

  1. Correctly color coded
  2.  Stenciled with Date of testing and Test pressure.

Onboard pipelines on should be tested as per the requirement stated in SMS.

Testing Equipment for Pipelines should be present onboard, While handing over/ taking over it should be checked. (click here)

Records should be properly maintained in file and should be readily available for inspection.

At least Annual Testing (also Refer Your company SMS)

  1. Cargo pipeline and associated valves:  tested to 100% of their  Maximum Allowable Working Pressure.
  2. Bunker pipelines:  tested to 100% of their Maximum Allowable Working Pressure.
  3. Fire, Foam, IG, Steam, Deck air and other pipelines should be tested to 100% of their Maximum Allowable Working Pressure.

2.5 years\5 years

  1. Cargo pipeline:  should be tested to 1.5 times of their Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) at least twice within any 5 year period.
  2. Bunker pipelines: should be tested to 1.5 times than Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) at least twice within any five year.

Important Points

  1. Company Pipeline testing policy should be complied.
  2. Physical Inspection of pipeline should be done regularly.
  3. VJ coupling on pipelines should be properly maintained.
  4. Drain valves of pipelines (IG line, Fire line etc) should working satisfactory
  5. Regular de-rusting should be done.
  6. Steam and other Hot pipeline should be properly Lagged.
  7. Lagging should be intact.

  10. F spanner/ Wheel spanner should be kept close to a valve.
  11. All valves should be correctly stenciled.

Pipeline Plan and Manual should referred for Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP).

Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) = Rated working pressure
