Limit of the sulphur content of fuel oil 0.50%

2020 global cap of sulphur content in fuel oils Regulation 14 of MARPOL Annex VI sets out control measures to reduce emissions of Sulphur Oxides (SOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) from ships. From 1 January 2020, the limit of the sulphur content of any fuel oil used on board ships will be tightened from 3.50% m/m to 0.50% m/m outside emission control areas (ECAs).

Electronic record
books under MARPOL. MARPOL Convention requires that ships are to be
provided with several record books for the purpose of management of pollution
prevention, such as oil record book specified in MARPOL Annex I. Today, electrification of record books spreads for ease of access
and maintenance, and it was proposed to develop standards for implementation
and use of electronic record books. At this session, Guidelines for
the use of electronic record books under MARPOL, and amendments to MARPOL Annex I, II, V and VI, as well as the NOx Technical
Code to allow the use of electronic
record books were adopted. On

October 2020, approval of the
electronic record books will be needed if the electronic record books are used. (Refer to MEPC.312(74),

Amendments to format of Certificate of Fitness for IBC
and IGC Code.
Applied: on or after 1 January 2020
Amendments to format of Certificate of Fitness for IBC, BCH, GC, IGC code were adopted, to clearly require ensuring that the loading and stability information booklet has been supplied to the ship in an approved form.
